Chatham County Jail Roster Overview

Sheriff Richard S. Coleman runs the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and the Chatham County Detention Center on Carl Griffin Drive in Savannah. The Sheriff's public roster is built around two booking lists: a 24-hour list and a 72-hour list. Both show recent intakes with the booking ID, name, date of birth, race, sex, arrest date, arrest number, agency, bond, and charges. There is no name-search bar on the official Sheriff's booking page. The list is the list, and it scrolls through the recent window.

The booking pages do not show federal inmates, state prison inmates, or people in immigration custody. People held at the U.S. Marshals' direction, in a Georgia Department of Corrections facility, or by ICE will not appear on the Chatham booking lists at all. For state prison search, use the Georgia Department of Corrections offender locator. For federal inmates, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. For people who already cleared the local jail, see released inmates.

The booking pages carry a clear disclaimer: the Sheriff's Department provides booking and incarceration information without expressed or implied warranties as to accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability. HB 845 also restricts booking photos online, so mugshots are not posted with the entries.

How to Use the Chatham County Inmate Roster

The roster works best when you already know roughly when the person was arrested. The 24-hour list is the quickest path if the booking was overnight. The 72-hour list catches arrests from the past three days. For anything older, the Sheriff's phone lines are the best route, because the official booking lists are not a full historical roster.

  1. Open the official 24-hour booking list. Scan by last name or arrest date for very recent intakes.
  2. If the entry is not there, open the official 72-hour booking list for arrests across the past three days.
  3. Note the DIN, arrest number, agency, bond, and charges. Those are the fields a court clerk or bonding agent will ask for.
  4. If the person is older than the 72-hour window, call Receiving and Discharge / Booking at (912) 651-3700 to verify current custody status.
  5. For court information tied to the charges, search the case at re:Search Georgia by name or case number.

You can preview what an entry looks like at the official 24-hour booking list.

Chatham County Jail Roster Search Fields

Because the official booking page is a recent-intake list rather than a query form, the public-facing fields are limited. The table sets out what is actually shown and where each piece of data sits, drawn directly from the captured Sheriff's pages.

What a Chatham County Inmate Profile Shows

The Sheriff's booking entry doubles as the inmate profile on the public list. There is no separate click-through profile with extra detail. The visible fields and the missing fields together set the realistic ceiling of what a member of the public can confirm without calling the jail.

Common charges in the booking entries include O.C.G.A. 16-5-21 aggravated assault as a felony, 40-5-121 driving on a suspended or revoked license as a misdemeanor, and 42-8-38 probation violation. Bond of $0.00 does not always mean release is on the table. A hold, a probation issue, or a state custody flag can keep a person in even when the local bond looks low.

Booking Process in Chatham County

The arresting agency transports the person to the Detention Center on Carl Griffin Drive. Receiving and Discharge / Booking processes the intake at (912) 651-3700. The booking list may show the holding agency as a municipal police department, the State Patrol, the Sheriff, a court, probation, or another hold. Initial appearance and bond decisions then depend on the charge and the court. Bond can read $0.00 where there is no bond, an outside hold, a probation issue, or state custody status applies, so a $0 line is not a green light for release.

Bonding follows a defined procedure. All bonds require a $20 non-refundable bonding fee. The jail accepts cash, credit and debit cards (Visa or MasterCard only), money orders, and cashier's checks. The card must be in the name of the person posting the bond, picture ID is required, and company cards are not accepted. A separate $2.50 card-bond fee applies, or 10% of the total when both the bond and bonding fee are paid by card. Approved bonding companies include A Brighter Day Bail Bonding, Alexander Bonding, Payless Bonding, Saseen Bonding, and Savannah Bail Bonds. Online cash bonds run through cashbondonline.com.
